Kansas Coliseum RFP Process

In the 2010 budget process, Sedgwick County Commissioners approved $584,989 for continued operations of the pavilions at the Kansas Coliseum. Historically, the pavilions have housed events such as dog and horse shows, flea markets and gun shows, and will continue to do so in 2010. The commission requested to initiate an RFP process to gauge market interest and discover potential uses for the Kansas Coliseum Complex. The 2010 Sedgwick County Adopted Budget currently allows the pavilions to continue to operate in 2010 without integration of any request for proposal (RFP) response.

The RFP was issued on July 29, 2009, sent to more than 40 potential developers, and responses were received on August 25, 2009.

Three responses were received and public presentations took place on October 27:

Sedgwick County continues to review the proposals with possible goals to include:

  • Minimize financial risk to Sedgwick County
  • Retain pavilions
  • Maximize benefits to the community
  • Maximize financial return of site to Sedgwick County
