12/5/2019Nathan Betzen UI was reading through your proposed strategic plan for the county, and I'd like to make a suggestion that fits under both Public Works Goal 4 as well as Culture and Recreation Goal 3. Running from the city of Andale, through Colwich, into Maize, and all the way to the Sedgwick County Park, there is a train track that is mainly used for grain transportation. I'd like to suggest that the county target a small area along the entire length of that track, and turn it into a walking/biking thoroughfare for the local communities and for pro and semi-pro bikers. This would solve a few major issues in the northwest sedgwick county area: First, it would provide a long, uninterrupted trail for walking, running, and biking enthusiasts, and might provide an excellent space for high school activities such as Cross Country tournaments in Andale and Maize. Additionally, it would provide a means of entering the city of Wichita for local biking communities that doesn't require traveling on dangerous roadways, as well as connecting the many local communities with natural walking paths. Second, it would clear our current roadways of of bike enthusiasts, making for much safer travel for both bikers and people driving cars and trucks.
12/3/2019Jason Verbeckmoes 1Continue to make wise investments in infrastructure, form partnerships that reduce duplication of services, ensure best-case scenarios for resources, establish efficiencies where opportunities allow. Be proactive in leveraging county resources for services. Consider new and emerging technologies, and act quickly to implement. Manage human resources efficiently, but truly with capacity so personnel are not burdened daily.
11/27/2019Mark Masterson 4Public Safety Public safety is inclusive of the 10 departments that either align directly to the Division of Public Safety or the Elected Offices (Sheriff, District Court and District Attorney) that coordinate with the Division. Collectively, these Departments and Offices ensure the safety of our community through the system of prevention, protection, prosecution and incarceration. These are the overall goals and strategies defined for this area.. Community safety should include strong language promoting justice and protecting civil rights for all. The importance of defense and civil rights attorneys and advocates deserve mention and attention in the plan. Effective, Efficient & Cost Effective Justice System Services Delivery Requires Quality Assurance Measures & Reporting to Demonstrate Cooperation, Performance, Service Quality, Fidelity in Use of Best Practices and Evidence of their Impact on Community Safety.

11/22/2019Lindsey D Stillwell 4Answering the questions proposed: 1. What programs and services of Sedgwick County’s strategic plan do you feel are the most critical to the community? I think that the work done between human services and public safety are important to assuring a healthy population able to enjoy the other services Sedgwick County has to offer its citizens. The most important of these are interdisciplinary activities that focus on prevention, early detection, and early addressing of issues that occur in our social environments. The utilization of these interdisciplinary teams can reduce the need for incarceration, reduce the long-term effects of trauma, and assure a healthier population moving forward. I see this is a priority in the plan and hope SGCO will take the opportunity to build a strong interdisciplinary program and evaluate it – potentially innovating and making a model for other municipalities. 2. Do you feel anything should be added to Sedgwick County’s strategic plan? No. 3. How would you describe Sedgwick County government in three or fewer words? Solvent. Stable. 4. Anything else you want to share regarding Sedgwick County strategic plan? The strategic plan, as drafted, indicates to me that there is going to be a lot of work done in the next 12-24 months. It also appears that some items may be dependent upon others before they can be accomplished. It would be great to see this as a Gantt chart showing where the strategies are dependent upon another division. This way, as a citizen, I can ask good questions of my commissioner and other officials about the progress of activities that I am paying attention to.
